How to Get Furniture Delivered to Your Apartment

August 6, 2018

You know you’re an adult when you get excited about furniture assembly. I ordered a sleeper sofa a few months ago but had an issue with delivery. They delivered it to my leasing office instead of my apartment unit. I called the furniture company to see if they could deliver it to my actual  apartment (I’m on the 4th floor), but they said they couldn’t since my leasing office had signed for it. They did let me return it free of charge and had someone pick it back up (but wait, couldn’t you have just delivered it to me though?). Needless to say I was bummed.

Well, I decided to give it another go since the sofa was so cute and affordable.  This time though I called Fedex (multiple times) and coordinated with my leasing office to make sure it was delivered to my unit. I ordered it on Thursday afternoon and 24 hours later it was in my guest bedroom. Crazy! If you live in an apartment complex, especially on a higher floor, I’d highly recommend calling the shipping company the furniture company has contracted with and adding a note with special delivery instructions to deliver to your unit. You should also notify your leasing office and request that they refuse the furniture if the company tries to deliver it there instead. The furniture was delivered to my unit but the battle was not over. I was eager to set up my sofa but when I got to step 3 one nut was not going in. I twisted and turned like a madwoman but to no avail. Unfortunately, my strength training sessions hadn’t prepared me for this. I tried again two more times but the bolt was unrelenting. I called it quits after severely blistered fingers.

The following Thursday (last week) I went to Lowe’s out of sheer desperation/frustration. I ended up buying some new bolts to see if that would do the trick and a drill to make a larger hole if the bolts didn’t work. Fortunately the new bolts went in and I finished assembly. Thank God!So now I have a semi-legit home office/guest bedroom with actual furniture – a desk, sleeper sofa, and side table. That room had become a dumping ground of sorts with unpacked boxes. Now that I have furniture in there I’m motivated to finish unpacking and organizing my things. I started clearing out the boxes yesterday and it felt so good.

The timing is perfect because you remember that big project that I was talking about tackling a couple weeks ago here? Yeah, well it’s publishing my dissertation. I’ve got deadlines coming up and now I have a space to work on it.I’m still making time for the fun stuff like happy hours with friends, summer blockbusters, and going out for ice cream. Outfits like this one help me stay cool in Atlanta’s stifling humidity while still being cute. The dress was from Forever 21 and I instantly wanted it. The fan is from World Market and it serves a practical purpose but can also be used for style. Don’t you love when form and function collide:)
