Spain Birthday Trip – Madrid & Barcelona!

January 20, 2020

Last November I celebrated my 30th birthday in Spain, and it was a trip to remember. I was there for two weeks with some family, and we split our time between Madrid and Barcelona.

We kicked off the trip in Madrid and the city was beautiful. It had a storybook quality to it with its richly colored fall foliage, tree lined streets and ornate doors featuring heavy brass lion door knockers.

We stayed in a cute Airbnb that was centrally located. We took advantage of the great location by walking to many places including the Thyssen museum which was a short 5-minute walk away.

Barcelona came next and the city was bustling. We were there during their election and saw a big group of protesters camped out on the streets but they were peaceful.

In Barcelona we stayed in a Airbnb that was also in a great location. The street we stayed on had everything from restaurants to grocery stores and perfume shops. We didn’t need to leave but of course we did. When we ventured beyond that street, there were tons of shops and restaurants right at our fingertips.

The Airbnb itself was beautiful with high ceilings, tiled floors, spacious rooms, and an incredible penthouse terrace, which I definitely took advantage of.

As with any trip, we had some hiccups along the way including lost luggage both going and coming, but for the most part I wouldn’t change a thing. We filled our days with museum trips, shopping, hiking, sight-seeing, cooking classes, and so many churros. I may have to do a post just talking about churros since we tried so many places.

I’m already planning my return. In future posts, I’ll share what I wore, what we did, and where we ate so if you’re thinking about planning a getaway to Spain you’ll want to stay tuned.
