12 Things I Always Keep in my Desk Drawer at Work

July 11, 2018

Since I spend a majority of my waking hours at work during the week, I like to make my workspace as comfortable as possible so I can be productive. Keep reading to find out the 12 things I aways keep in my desk drawer at work.

1. Tea. As soon as I get to work I make myself tea to sip on while I’m planning out what needs to be done for the day and checking and responding to emails.2. A protein bar. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and since I work out in the morning, it’s even more important that I have a nourishing breakfast. I’m good about bringing a protein-packed breakfast to work, but I like the idea of having a backup if I’m ever unable to. I may also have these as a midday snack.

3. Almonds. For breakfast sometimes I’ll have Greek yogurt with fruit. I like to throw in oven roasted dark chocolate almonds for extra protein and some added sweetness. Keeping a bag at work means one less thing that I have to cart back and forth.

4. Hot sauce. While I don’t keep it in my bag (yes, that was a Beyonce, and apparently Hillary Clinton reference) I do keep some in my desk to jazz up my breakfast sandwiches or to occasionally put it on baked chicken if I’m having some for lunch. 5. Sea salt. I’m not timid when it comes to seasoning but if I’m ever off my game and salt is lacking, I’m prepared to give my food a quick sodium boost.

6. Dark chocolate. I have a sweet tooth so I like to keep a few individually wrapped pieces of dark chocolate on hand. Since dark chocolate tends to be more rich and less sweet than milk or white chocolate, it’s much easier to stop at one piece.7. Floss. Have you ever carried on a full fledged conversation with someone only to discover you had food in your teeth afterwards? It’s a nightmare of mine. Food in my teeth when I’m talking to coworkers or my boss is not a good look so floss is a must.

8. Mints. I keep these on hand to cap a meal, freshen breath, or to wake me up if I’m feeling tired.

9. Hand lotion. I try to drink a lot of water at work which means multiple bathroom trips and frequent hand washing. I can’t type with ashy hands. Especially not for 8 hours.

10. Compact mirror. This is nice to make sure I don’t have food in my teeth or for when I want to re-apply lipstick.

11. Lip balm. Similar to dry hands, the thought of having dry lips for 8 hours is unfathomable. Plus if I need to re-apply my lipstick I like to put on lip balm first.

12. Headphones. Music is power and sometimes I need a little music to help me power through a work day.
